The Doctor, after saving Donna Noble from the Racnoss, meets medical student Martha Jones and takes her everywhere from the days of Shakespeare to the very last days of the universe. There he discovers that another survived the Time War: the Master. With the help of Martha and Captain Jack Harkness, the Doctor defeats his old nemesis and is left alone, with the Master dying to spite him and Martha after coming to terms with her unrequited love.
